DONATION
The art piece story:
The painting 30 Years of Luxembourg Maritime Law was conceived and created by the artist Axelle Salvage in 2020, and graciously donated during the 4th edition of the Gala des Armateurs organized by the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster on October 21, 2020, at Novotel Luxembourg Kierchberg Hotel.
This artwork was presented with honor as a gift from the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster to the Luxembourg Maritime Administration — Ministry of Economy.
Description of the piece:
Symbolic Elements:
This commemorative piece respectfully weaves together Luxembourg's most cherished national symbols to celebrate the nation's distinguished maritime legal heritage. The composition thoughtfully features the red bridge representing the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge, accompanied by two majestic lions inspired by those gracing Place Guillaume II, alongside the revered Gëlle Fra statue.
Beneath the bridge, a vessel navigates the Alzette River, depicted with enhanced prominence to honor Luxembourg's significant maritime contributions. The lions are positioned at opposite sides of the composition, symbolizing the unity and strength that spans our nation.
Commemorative Detail:
In tribute to this remarkable 30-year milestone, this significant number is permanently honored within the artwork through carefully placed fireworks illuminating the background. This subtle yet meaningful detail ensures the anniversary remains forever celebrated within the piece.
Maritime Heritage:
The artwork honors Luxembourg's maritime tradition by featuring the national flag displayed on the vessel as is customary in maritime contexts. To create a more dynamic composition and emphasize national pride, the red lion has been artistically extracted from the blue and white Luxembourg flag and repositioned prominently in the foreground within an elegant spiral formation.
This deliberate artistic choice elevates the national emblem beyond its conventional placement, creating a powerful focal point that celebrates Luxembourg's maritime identity while the traditional blue and white flag remains visible on the vessel.
By placing the lion in the foreground, the composition celebrates Luxembourg's maritime heritage with greater visual impact, allowing the national symbol to command attention as the artwork's centerpiece.
Artistic Dedication:
This painting represents not only an artistic achievement but also a sincere expression of respect for Luxembourg's maritime legal framework and the dedicated professionals who have shaped this important sector over three decades.
