The art piece story:
Love III - A Hopeful Perspective
In this second intimate 30x24 cm acrylic painting, Axelle Salvage reimagines elements from her Love series, shifting the narrative focus to the symbol of hope — the green bird — now perched thoughtfully on a textured brown branch. This evolution in the series demonstrates how love's story can be viewed from different angles, each offering its own emotional resonance.
The green bird, previously a distant observer in the original piece, takes center stage in this composition, its alert posture and watchful eye suggesting wisdom and perspective. Positioned on its substantial branch, it offers a grounded view of love's journey, suggesting that hope requires both elevation and foundation.
The familiar elements of purple and pink flowers create a harmonious connection to the previous works, with the purple bloom anchoring the lower right corner while pink petals create movement throughout the piece. The interplay between these floral elements and the floating spheres creates a dynamic visual rhythm that speaks to love's ever-changing nature.
Significantly, the blue orbs introduced in this piece directly reference the themes of jealousy and doubt from Love I — where blue symbolized these complex emotions through the Dalmatian's eyes. Here, these emotions are transformed into floating elements that exist in the same space as the orange orbs (representing moments of joy), suggesting how these contrasting feelings often coexist in love's landscape. Against the signature yellow background with energetic coral splatters, these elements dance in a composition that feels both grounded and ethereal.
As part of the Emotional Realms collection, this piece continues Salvage's exploration of love's facets, but from a more contemplative viewpoint. Following La Fontaine's influence of using "animals to instruct men," the bird becomes not just a symbol but a teacher, inviting viewers to observe how hope can exist alongside doubt and jealousy — blurring the lines between reality and dreams while awakening lingering sensations that resonate with our own experiences of love.
Love III beautifully completes this triptych — like exploration of love's complexities maintaining consistent symbolic elements while shifting perspectives.
